Domaine de la Garrigue
Rose Vila
We first came across this domaine in 1980, when we tasted a bottle
of their delicious Rivesaltes. Marcel Vila was a talented
winemaker, and a very charming man, who, in spite of ill health,
was always very welcoming to visitors, and very enthusiastic about
his wines. Only the finest vintages were retained for ageing in
the cellars, and much of the wine produced was sold to the local
cooperatives. His wife, Rose, has continued the tradition, and the
old vintages, from Grenache Noir macerated with alcohol whilst
still with the skins, ages superbly. The 1959, one of their finest
vintages, is excellent now, soft, raisiny, with toffee and caramel
flavours. |
